dermaplane microdermabrasion

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning, or "blading the skin" uses a surgical blade done by a clinitian to get rid of dead skin cells and rejuvinate the skin. Dermaplaning has many of the same benefits of Microdermabrasion, and can be done to people with sensitive skin, rosacea, or vasucular issues unlike microdermabrasion. Dermaplaning gets rid of all the "peach fuzz" hair as well leaving you with a smooth supple skin.

Benefits of Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning has no down time for recovery. Dermaplaning can help people with hyperpigmentation, rough and dry skin, fine lines, wrinkles or acne scarring. Dermaplaning may be used by estheticians to prepare the skin for a chemical peel or cleansing facial, allowing that treatment to penetrate the skin better. Many have concern that removing the vellus hair can make the hair grow back thicker, this is not true. The procedure may make the hair follical have a blunt edge, but it will not be thicker. Your body has vellus and terminal hair. Terminal hair when cut can grow back thicker, however the fine vellus blonde hair cannot grow back thicker. Vellus hair can trap debris and oils so it is good to remove it on a regular basis to achieve clean skin. Dermaplaning can get rid of the woman mustache, fine wrinkles on your crows feet and forehead as well as make your makeup go on smooth and flawless.

How the Dermaplaning Procedure Works

Dermaplaning should be done by a State Licensed Barber or Cosmetology Professional. Dermaplaning is a quick procedure with no adverse effects, however usually a sign of consent is required since any procedure using a blade can create nicks. Dermaplaning is typically done only on the face. The clinitian will first clean the face with mild keratolytic properties to loosen the dead skin. The skin needs to be dry and it is encouraged for the client to remain still to avoid nicks. A number 10 surgical blade is used at a 45 degree angle and stroked on the skin on the opposite of hair direction. Vellus hair and dead skin cells on the epidermous are removed. After the dermaplaning procedure a hydrating lotion and sunscreen is applied to protect the skin. Dermaplaning can be done every two weeks for optimal results.

Who Should Avoid Dermaplaning

People that are allergic to the metal of the blade (Nickel usually), lesions, or inflamed acne should avoid dermaplaning.
